Why does EPS insurance cost so much?

Expanded Polystyrene has almost the unique property of being highly flammable and almost impossible for fire crews to put out. As the product is sandwiched between 2 sheets of metal the water or other substance used to try to extinguish it is rendered almost completely impotent in putting out the fire and as insurance claims mounted over the years insurers started to either increase the cost of this type of insurance or just excluded cover all together.

As you can see by the video demonstration the fire is enormous and almost unstoppable, and fire crews can never be 100% certain that the fire is all out as they can not see through the metal sheeting of Expanded Polystyrene (EPS).

This is a very risky building material to cover and as such you need to declare it when you go about getting your insurance quotes from your insurance broker.
